Annual Report of the Academic Appeals Committee
Academic Year 2004-2005

Members: Dr. James Byrd (Chair), Dr. Patti Brandt, Dr. Jose da Cruz, Dr. Lynn Stover, Dr. Stephen, Dr. Jonathan Roberts and Mr. John Mitchell as the representative from student affairs.

During the academic year 2004-2005 the committee met twice at the beginning of each semester, once during the semester, and once at the beginning of summer session. Admission appeals and suspension appeals were considered at each meeting.

During the fall semester the committee read and took action on approximately 70 appeals for admission and dismissal for academic reasons. During the spring semester the committee read and took action on approximately 45 appeals. The committee considered 11 appeals for the summer session.

Each student appeal is read and discussed by the committee. This process is laborious but necessary to make certain that all student requests are handled fairly and uniformly. As chair, my thanks go to the hardworking members of the 2004-2005 committee who gave up their time during the particularly busy periods at the start of semesters.

Respectfully submitted,
Dr. James T. Byrd
