Academic Council
August 27, 2002

The Academic Council met Tuesday, August 27, 2002. Vice President Thompson called the meeting to order at 2:30 p.m.

Item: Academic Council

Discussion: Vice President Thompson acknowledged the importance of the Academic Council operating in an effective and efficient manner. He envisions a focus on cross boundary issues, e.g., retention and graduate rates. He sees the Council meetings as an opportunity for the participants to share strategies and to coordinate efforts.

Dr. Dale Kilhefner will be asked to speak on the Student Recruitment, Advisement and Retention Committee’s efforts and activities at the September meeting. Volunteers from the Council also will present ideas and strategies.

Item: Retention Rates Discussion: Vice President Thompson reported that he had met with Patrick Mizak, Kim West and Rick McGrath to relook AASU’s retention and graduation data. They are exploring different ways to view the data.

The Academic Council will meet in UH 157 on Tuesday, September 24, at 2:30 p.m.
