Standing Committees Reports
ANNUAL REPORT
Committee on Disability Services
2004-2005
Chair: Anne Thompson
Members: Donna Brooks, Joe Buck, David Faircloth, Frank Katz, Dennis Murphy, Nancy Remler, Jonathan Roberts, Michael Snowden, Carolyn Smith, Kim West; Amelia Castilian-Moore, ex-officio member
Number of Meetings: 1
Recommendations from previous year and/or current charges:
- Finalize essential functions within the Speech/Language Pathology and Mathematics Departments.
- Add a representative from the School of Computing.
Accomplishments:
- The Disability Services Committee is coordinating with the Task Force on Faculty Essential Functions, chaired by Dr. Dennis Murphy. Dr. John Kraft administered a campus-wide faculty survey in spring 2005 which will provide a framework for understanding the essential functions required in departments and programs. Addressing student and faculty issues in one process should require less time for both groups. The results should be available in fall 2005.
- Frank Katz joined the committee this year.
- Campus construction continues to reflect ADA code compliance. The U.S. Office of Civil Rights made a campus visit in August 2004. The report was given to Dr. Joe Buck in May 2005, with only minor corrections suggested.
- There were no student concerns brought forth to the committee this year; thus, no spring meeting was required.
Recommendation #1:
Follow up on essential functions survey in fall 2005.
Recommendation #2:
Continued collaboration of Committee members, Plant Operations, Human Resources, and the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs. Committee members may serve as contact points for faculty, staff, and students who have compliance questions or need assistance with classroom or campus accommodations.
