Annual Report 2004 - 2005

Selected Accomplishments:

-- Delivered to Vice President a proposal for “Professional Development Opportunities for AASU Department Heads.” (August 2004).

-- Distributed Handbook for Adjunct and Part-time Faculty to selected part-time faculty members. (Fall 2004)

-- Recommended that Teaching & Learning Grants be awarded to seven faculty (Kimberley Coulton, Beth Howells, Pang-Chieh Hsu, Nancy Remler, Vinita Sharma, and Pamela Sears) for a total of $14, 183.00. (Fall 2004)

-- Organized seven faculty field trips.

-- In concert with the Office of Faculty Support, hosted meetings of the Online Teaching Community. (Fall 2004/Spring 2005)

-- Sponsored seven First Friday Faculty Forums on topics ranging from advisement and grant-writing to criteria for promotion and tenure. (Fall 2004/Spring 2005)

-- For the third year in a row, hosted end-of-term dinner for new faculty, and collected advice from new faculty on resources, services, and information that they would find valuable in an extensive (and funded) academic orientation program for new faculty. (December 2004)

-- Under leadership of Sabrina Hessinger and Anne Thompson, resumed meetings of the Scholarship of Teaching Round Table, a program initiated three years ago by Nancy Remler. (Spring 2005)

-- Promoted Governor's Teaching Fellows Program at UGA and assisted with successful applications from Dr. June Hopkins and Dr. Teresa Winterhalter.

-- Organized and hosted fifth annual President's Symposium on Teaching and Learning. (April 2005).

-- Promoted and secured nominations for service awards for full- and part-time faculty. (Spring 2005)

Recommendations for 2005-2006 :

-- Continue to expand resources and services available in the Teaching & Learning Center (Solms 209).

-- Actively pursue grants to support faculty development.

-- Expand scope of Symposium on Teaching and Learning to include more presenters and participants from neighboring colleges and universities.

-- Hold a series of informal lunches for new faculty, thus implementing a new program of academic orientation.
